Joy! LOOK AT THIS!!!! What a wonderful day and Juneteenth celebration! So grateful to all the folks who came before and after the rain to be in community with each other and the performers (DJ Ride, Sol Bentley, Ezrahk, Cymphony Jackson)! Much love to our friend and city councilor Renee Villarreal for being such a huge and wonderful support for this event behind the scenes and for reading the new Juneteenth proclamation with Michael J. Garcia , Jamie Cassutt and Lee Garcia (THANK YOU!) So much love to my dude Chali 2na who absolutely crushed it with the always amazing Cut Chemist (thank y’all again for coming out with your energy and spirit!!!) So much love to the elders and youth and Soriba Fofana , Fred, and all the drummers who brought the fire to Christopher Webster and fam who opened up his gallery to all the folks during and after the rain break, Lara Rabkin for just being dope and for walking in with that pan of Mac-n-cheese, Tintawi Kaigziabiher for the prayer and my Earthseed fam (Nikesha Breeze, Tigre Mashaal-Lively, Rashad Pridgen, Porter Mines (yeah Porter I put you in there lol) for just holding and creating the best container and looking out for me and our folks, to the good good energy the beautiful peeps of the city came with so much love. Thank you! I kept pausing and looking and remembering my ancestors and then feeling so much and seeing so many beautiful Black faces in joy and friends and folks who were so conscious of what was happening and just had good sense...yesssss!
